With the divine blessings of H.H. Shrimad Samyamindra Thirtha Swamiji, the logo of SARASWATH SCHOLARSHIP was officially unveiled on 23rd January 2025. The ceremony took place at Sri Venkataramana Temple, Car Street, Mangalore, during the Mangalore camp.

Background on Gowda Saraswat Brahmins (GSBs)

  • Origin and Migration:
GSBs are a Hindu Brahmin community believed to have originated from the Saraswat region along the ancient Sarasvati River. They migrated to the Konkan coast, including Goa, around the 7th century CE, eventually spreading to Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and other regions.

  • Cultural and Religious Significance:
The GSBs have been custodians of knowledge, rituals, and traditions, contributing to various fields such as literature, philosophy, arts, and cuisine. They played a crucial role in preserving Hindu practices in the region.

  • Impact of Portuguese Rule:
The arrival of the Portuguese in Goa in the 16th century led to significant upheaval, causing many GSBs to migrate, particularly to the west coast, where they maintained their allegiance to Shree Kashimath Samsthan, Varanasi.
